Eve Snook

One of Ari's 6x great-grandmothers was Eve Snook, who lived in Tisbury in Wiltshire. She was born in 1764, the daughter of John and Sarah Snook, and baptised on 21 October that year. The record shows that the family lived in Hatch.

At the age of twenty-one, Eve married Jonas Foyle at St John's church in Tisbury:

The vicar, William Nicholson, had been appointed a few years earlier, in 1779, and you can see that neither Eve nor Jonas signed the register.

The following year, Eve and Jonas had a daughter, Sarah (Ari's 5x great-grandmother). Another daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1790, followed by Jane in 1792, and then four sons: Jonas, William, Samuel and James.

The marriage record for James tells us that his father Jonas was a labourer.

Eve died in 1835 at the age of seventy-one, and was buried on the 1st of August in Tisbury. The address given on the burial record is Rye Close.

Writing this blog led me to find:

  • the names of Eve's parents,

  • the date and place of Eve's baptism,

  • a daughter, Jane, who I hadn't found before,

  • the date and place of Eve's death and burial, and

  • the date and place of her husband's death and burial.

Not bad!

Ari, this is how you are related to Eve:
