Benjamin Mullens from Chicksgrove

Ari’s 6x great-grandfather, Benjamin Mullens, was born in 1762/3 in the hamlet of Chicksgrove, Wiltshire, and baptised at St John’s church on 19 January 1763.

In 1784, Benjamin married a widow, Rebecca Tattershell or Tortoiseshell, née White.

They had four children: Elizabeth in 1792, Joseph in 1793, Francis in 1794, and Andrew in 1797. The children were baptised at the Catholic chapel at Wardour Castle.

This had been built in 1776 as a private chapel for the Arundell family of Wardour. The baptism, marriage and burial registers are held at Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre, with some transcriptions (and much other information) available at https://www.wiltshire-footprints.co.uk/wardour

Benjamin died in the summer of 1817 in Hatch, near Tisbury, at the age of fifty-four and was buried on 3 August 1817 at the same church where he had been baptised. I have not found a record that tells us what his occupation was.

Ari, this is how you are related to Benjamin:
