John James from Bishop's Frome

John James was Ari's 4x great-grandfather. He was born in about 1824. I am not sure where he was in the 1841 census, but on 22 October 1849 he married Ann Amphlett at St Peter's church in Martley, Worcestershire.

In the 1851 census they were living at Leigh Sinton in the Malvern Hills, where John worked as an agricultural labourer. They had two children, Matilda (2) and Thomas (3 months).

By 1861 they were at Chapel Lane in Leigh, and on this census John says that he was born at Bishop's Frome in Herefordshire. This allows us to find his baptism, on 15 May 1825, and his parents, Thomas and Catherine. By 1861 John and Ann had another four children:

The next census, in 1871, shows the family living on Malvern Road. The four oldest children have left home, and five younger ones remain. The youngest, Elizabeth, is 3.

Another son, Henry, was born in late 1872 and baptised on the 29th of December. By the 1881 census, Ann was a widow working as a laundress, so we can narrow John's death date down to this period, but I have not found it yet.

Ari, this is how you are related to John:
